Medal of honor 2010 vs COD Black Ops?
Sep 7th
Which one will be better? Hope Black Ops won’t be like MW2 but by the way it looks on the game trailer it seem like it didn’t change much… But I think Battlefield Bad Company 2 is best overall..
The E3 2010 Primer: Sony
Sep 6th
Written by Podunker:Number 905
It’s that time of year again: All the big names in gaming are preparing to descend upon Los Angeles for E3, the Electronic Entertainment Expo. The Expo, while largely an industry show, holds plenty of excitement for gamers with the latest games being shown off and new titles being announced.
Set to take place June 15th through the 17th, we’ve still got a month before the companies take the stage, but there’s no harm in looking ahead at what could be. This week, we’re going to take a look at what we’re likely to see from Sony.
Strong Momentum
Sony never has been a slouch at E3 presentations, although some would say that their offerings have dwindled in recent years. That being said, the Sony we’ll see at this year’s E3 is going to be nothing like the Sony we’ve seen since “600 U.S. Dollars” and “giant enemy crabs.” Without a doubt, Sony has had its best year in the PlayStation 3’s lifespan, largely in part to the redesigned Slim and the first affordable, and competitive, price in the console’s history. This momentum in sales is also going to translate to more enthusiasm on Sony’s part, and an energetic, and long, press conference.
Kevin Butler, Vice President of Press Conferences
I’ll admit that it’s wishful thinking on my part to want to see Kevin Butler, the face behind the “Dear PlayStation” ad campaign, present Sony’s press conference. Still, we’re bound to see something from Kevin, even if it’s just a new commercial or short presentation.
Stat Break
Obviously, E3 is a time for companies to show off how well they’ve done. Get a coffee, though, because Sony is going to have a lot to share. As far as hardware goes, PS3 Slim sales are going to be talked up, especially from around the holiday season. The PSP Go and PSP sales in general might get talked up, but they won’t be as big of a gloat as with the PS3. Software wise, we’re going to hear how well Uncharted 2 did and how many “Game of the Year” awards it picked. We’ll hear how Final Fantasy XIII sales were stronger on the PS3, how well Heavy Rain and God of War III have done, and maybe hear about more multi-platform sales. It might be too early for sales info on Heavy Rain’s downloadable content or ModNation Racers, but if they do well enough, I’m sure they’ll be mentioned. We’ll also have various PSN stats letting us know how much content there is, what gets downloaded, how many PSN accounts there are, and maybe a few Home stats for good measure.
Get Your Move On
Sony’s motion controller, Move, was initially revealed at the Game Developer’s Conference a couple of months ago. With rumors of a September release, we’re bound to see more about the device at E3. While there are going to plenty of titles made specifically with Move in mind, there’s also likely to be a focus on existing titles and titles currently in development using the device. It’s a big push on Sony’s part to make the hardware a success, and the games we see using it are going to reflect that. We’re also likely to find out pricing for Move and its various configurations.
New Hardware
Unlike previous years, there hasn’t been a rash of hardware leaks to plague Sony. That doesn’t mean that we can’t see some new products at E3. We’re most likely to see at least one new PS3 bundle with Move, probably due for deployment either with Move’s launch or closer to the holiday. There have also been rumors from publishers about a potential new PSP. While the PSP Go was just announced and released last year, it hasn’t exactly done well for itself, and Sony’s portable line is going to need a boost to compete with Nintendo’s new unit. There’s a good chance that a true PSP successor might pop up this year.
Now in 3D!
While Sony’s big push this year is going to be Move, they have also been working on bringing gaming into the third dimension, as evidenced by some of the promotions with their Bravia televisions. It might not get a big focus with everything else going on at the show, but expect there to be a couple of high-profile releases with 3D options.
PlayStation Network Plus
This one has been rumored for awhile now, but surveys do point toward Sony looking into a paid tier to the PSN service. While it’s highly unlikely that it will take away any of the features people currently enjoy, a paid service with extra features would provide Sony with more revenue to further improve the service. Features such as cross-game chat, group chat, and content through movie, television, and music partners are all possible perks, but there’s just as good of a chance that Sony is merely considering the option and not ready to implement a paid system this generation.
Social Leisure with Home and Free Realms
PlayStation Home has been available for a couple of years now, and it’s clearly doing something right, as more people keep signing on and more engaging content keeps getting added. It’s possible that we’ll hear about new content partners for Home. The biggest social game we’ll hear about, though, is Sony’s massive multiplayer online game, Free Realms. While it’s available on the PC for a long time, it seems that the game, with well over a million players, will finally be hitting the PS3.
Gran Turismo 5 Rolls into Stores
Anyone remember this game? Yeah, it’s that racing game that’s been in development for, well, about forever. With any luck, Sony will finally be able to place a release date on the title that will stick. We’ve had plenty shown off about the title, and even a Prologue to play with, but it’s time for the game to finally hit shelves.
Heavy Rain DLC Trickles Out
Love it or hate it, Heavy Rain did pretty well for itself. While there is currently one piece of episodic DLC for the game currently on the PSN, there are plans for more. While E3 isn’t usually the place for DLC to get shown off, Heavy Rain was a big enough first party title that it’s a possibility that the title will get a little limelight.
Prepare to be inFAMOUS…Again
No shocker here, but games that do well tend to become franchises, and inFAMOUS is already confirmed to be getting a second title, and we’ll be seeing it first at E3.
Square Off in Final Fantasy XIII Versus
When Final Fantasy XIII was first announced at E3, another Final Fantasy XIII game was announced: Versus. While it isn’t set in the world of XIII, Versus is meant to contain similar themes revolving around duty and vengeful gods. Unlike XIII, Versus is a PS3 exclusive title, so that will put it on Sony’s stage come June.
More Vengeance, More Blood, More Kratos
Obviously, the God of War franchise is going to make an appearance this year. We’re definitely going to see more from the PSP title, Ghost of Sparta, set after the events of the original game. There’s also a possibility that we’ll hear about God of War III downloadable content, as there have been rumors of an alternative ending for some time.
No one ever knows for sure what the Electronic Entertainment Expo will bring. There are always plenty of surprises that come out of nowhere to shock the industry and gamers alike. The above list might seem safe and predictable, but will help get your prepared for long talks, boring stats, and wacky new products. Next week, we’ll take a look at what Microsoft’s press conference will mean for the Xbox 360 in the coming year.

The E3 2010 Primer: Microsoft
Sep 5th
Written by Podunker:Number 905
Last time, we took a look at what Sony’s likely to be bringing to Los Angeles for the Electronic Entertainment Expo next month. Now it’s time to look at what Microsoft has planned for the Xbox 360’s fifth year.
Project Natal Opens for E3
Last year, Microsoft debuted Project Natal, a control scheme that aimed to eliminate the need for a conventional controller and add a new level of interactivity to gaming. Instead of being shown off at the traditional press conference, Microsoft is holding a special event, complete with a performance by Cirque du Soleil, the day before their conference exclusively to show off Natal. This is where we’ll find out the big information that everyone’s been waiting for since last year: launch date, pricing, and initial titles. We might not get to see every Natal title that Microsoft has up their sleeves, but we should get a nice idea on what we’ll be able to buy this holiday season and how much of our wallet will be disappearing.
Your Usual Stats
Like every other company holding a conference at E3, Microsoft is going to have a collection of numbers to throw at the press, ranging from system sales, to Xbox LIVE subscribers, to individual title sales. With the console on its fifth year, expect Microsoft to be especially nostalgic and reflective. Thankfully, these numbers are usually kept to the beginning of the show, so don’t feel bad if you tune in late.
The 360 Goes on a Diet?
There’ve been all sorts of rumors surrounding a slimmed-down Xbox 360 debuting at E3. Personally, I’m not sure how the 360 can be slimmed down while still using the same proprietary hard drives. If it does happen, though, it will most likely be bundled with Project Natal to offset any potential losses on hardware. We definitely will be seeing some sort of 360 with Natal, and a redesigned model with Natal and a flash drive could be a nice replacement for the Arcade, or a middle ground between the Arcade ($200) and Elite ($300).
New Xbox LIVE Features
Practically every year something new gets laid out for Xbox LIVE, making that Gold subscription just a bit more justifiable. This year, the big rumor is for some sort of television channel or streaming service. Given that Microsoft has made deals with Canal+ in France, Sky in the United Kingdom, and Foxtel in Australia to provide streaming content, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see America getting a content provider as well. Whether it will come with a Gold subscription or cost extra is the big question.
Xbox LIVE Primetime Expands
A couple of years ago, Microsoft took the stage at E3 to announce the Primetime Channel, a hub for virtual game shows to be played for real prizes. So far, the only programming we’ve seen is 1 vs. 100, which has enjoyed popularity during its two seasons. With any luck, we’ll see that Microsoft hasn’t forgotten about Primetime, and hear about some new game shows to hit the service.
The Arcade Highlight Reel
Microsoft always shows off a stockpile of Xbox LIVE Arcade titles that are in development. Not everything we see makes it to us that year, but it’s a nice look at what’s ahead. Given E3’s later date this year, Microsoft may also integrate their Summer of Arcade promotion into their conference, showing off high-profile titles like Sonic Adventure, Jet Set Radio, Quake III Arena, Crazy Taxi, and more.
Return to Pacific City in Crackdown 2
With a July release date and a good deal of info out already, there’s a chance that we might not see much of Crackdown 2 come June. Considering that the original existed largely as a promotion for the Halo 3 multiplayer beta, though, Microsoft probably wants to talk the title up, and it’s always nice to see something shown off at E3 that we’ll be able to buy in a month as opposed to a year’s time.
Bungie Reassures Us about Halo Reach
In case you’ve missed the news, Bungie is no longer a second-party company to Microsoft. While they may be publishing future titles under Activision, they’ve said that they are committed to Halo Reach, and E3 is where we’re going to see that commitment, as well as a ton of media. Most of what we see will probably pertain to the single player, but there will be stats from the recent multiplayer beta, and possibly even a look at what they’ve changed based on that feedback. What we won’t see, though, is who will be taking up the Halo series after Bungie is gone.
The Stars Come Out for Fable III
Even if you try to ignore everything that gets said about Fable 3, it’s hard to ignore that it’s got quite the cast behind it. While we’re likely to see the game’s mastermind, Peter Molyneux, talk about the game, we might also see some of that talent come out to give a boost to the presentation. We’ll hear a lot more about Fable 3, regardless of who is saying it, including a release date and if it really is coming to Windows computers. If it is, hopefully we’ll hear about a Fable 2 port as well.
Epic Concludes Gears of War
With an April release date, this year is the only E3 that Epic will have to show off Gears of War 3, and you can bet that they’re going to have some playable footage, most likely showing off some of the more striking changes to the series, mechs and underwater combat included. We may also hear what surprises the multiplayer component has in store to keep the title competitive with Call of Duty and Halo.
Something New from Rare?
It’s been awhile since we’ve heard of any big retail games coming from Rare, so it’s very likely that we’ll get to see something from them at E3. Being that they are owned by Microsoft, it will most likely be a title for Natal. This could mean that there will be a new franchise debuted, or we’ll see an existing franchise brought into a world without controllers. If the controls were done right, a sequel to Kameo: Elements of Power would make a nice companion to Natal’s family-friendly marketing, though so would a more traditional Banjo-Kazooie title.
With Natal on the horizon, Microsoft might not be taking many gambles at this year’s E3 conference, but the content they’re likely to show off should be more than enough to keep 360 owners interested even if they don’t feel ready to trade in their controllers. Next time, we’ll take a look at the final member of the big three: Nintendo.

Hot PS3 games for 2010
Aug 20th
Even though sales slowed during the latter half of the year sales of video console games bucked the recessionary dip through 2009 and that trend could continue throughout 2010, especially following the release of several major titles in the run-up to Christmas.
The introduction of the PS3 slim console to the UK in September 2009 reinvigorated the games market for PS3 games, and with many hot games tipped for release in the early months of 2010, the odds are looking good that Sony will return to dominate the games market, throughout the first half of 2010 at least.
WWE Smackdown VS Raw 2010 is dominated the Christmas sales charts for the PS3 platform and is likely to continue to remain in the top ten for some time during 2010. The widely anticipated Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 has certainly upped the ante when it comes to first person shooter games and is also anticipated to record continued levels of sales through early 2010.
In January 2010 the two hottest releases for the PlayStation 3 are tipped to be Army of Two: The 40th Day and Dark Void, both due for release in mid-January. Also coming out in January will be Sega’s Vancouver 2010 – The Official Video game of the Olympic Winter Games. Although the games don’t begin until mid-February this could prove to be the surprise hit of the year.
During February the onslaught of quality PS3 games will continue when Ubisoft release Assassin’s Creed II: Battle of Forli, the same month as Sega release the other hottest game of the month Alien vs. Predator.
Into March the hot releases continue with Sony’s Gods of War III and Yakuza 3 & 4 from Sega. The excitement doesn’t stop there as Gran Turismo 5, Modnation Racers and Heavy Rain are also slated to be released in early 2010. The latter three games are eagerly awaited by gamers, especially as Modnation Racers has been previewed in beta mode and the gameplay and graphics look absolutely stunning, and Gran Turismo fans will be itching to see what the latest variation of their favourite game offers.
Indeed, 2010 promises to be a blinding year for gamers in possession of a PS3 console, but there promises to be some hard choices ahead for those on a limited budget; what games to buy as brand new and what to hope to pick up as nearly new during the year!

Review: Vancouver 2010 – Not Quite Gold Medal Material
Aug 15th
Vancouver 2010 is the official video game of the Winter Olympics. As with most video games based on the Olympics, Vancouver 2010 offers a series of events that represent the most popular sports seen in the Winter Olympics. Although the game is somewhat limited in scope, the game play of the individual games is strong and the graphics are rich and detailed.
Platform: PS3, Xbox 360, PC
Publisher: Sega
Genre: Sports
ESRB Rating: Everyone
Release Date: 01/12/2010
Graphics: 9.0 / 10.0
Eurocom, Vancouver 2010’s developer, has done of excellent job of creating realistic graphics that lend themselves to a convincing winter environments. Games that rely on a racing mechanics, such as Alpine Skiing, have a wonderful sense of speed that make you feel like you’re really racing down a mountain. The graphics are especially effect in the unique first-person mode, though playing with a third-person perspective reveals some nicely detailed character models and animations. The framerate is solid and consistent, which is unsurprising given that the game never has to render anything for more than a couple of minutes.
View article Images here
Gameplay: 8.0 / 10.0
Vancouver 2010 does a solid job of bringing the Olympic experience home. Although the game features popular events like ski jumping, slalom, aerials, and downhill, it’s unfortunate that only 14 total events are included. Most of the games have a unique control scheme that has progressed far beyond the button mashing game play of older Olympic games. You might find yourself managing both analog sticks to hold a line with your bobsled, or working the triggers in unison to keep your balance on the ski jump. The difficulty of the games vary pretty wildly, and it may take some time to master some of the events.
Story: 3.0 / 10.0
Sadly, Vancouver 2010 does not feature any sort of “career” or “campaign” mode. You simply pick the game you’d like to play, try to get the best time, and repeat. A major part of watching the Olympics is the sense of national pride you feel when your country wins a gold medal, as well as the medal race itself. Vancouver 2010 does virtually nothing to translate that feeling to the gaming experience.
Music: 5.0 / 10.0
Although Vancouver 2010 features an expected Olympic soundtrack and some great, convincing sound effects, the lack of any sort of commentary or player voices makes the game feel a little faceless and dry. In the game’s defense, hearing your characters breathing when you switch to an in-helmet camera angle is a very nice auditory touch.
Replay Value: 7.0 / 10.0
Vancouver 2010’s replay value will depend on your enjoyment of the individual games. Most of the events last two minutes or less, and in theory, you can experience everything there is to see in about thirty minutes. Online play is a nice addition, and perfectionists might enjoy coming back to beat their old records, but you probably won’t find yourself coming back to the game very often after a couple of playthroughs.
Overall Rating: 6.7 / 10.0
Although Vancouver 2010 has some solid, balanced game play and detailed, interesting graphics, the lack of a campaign or story mode will probably relegate this to the “weekend rental” category. A few more Olympic events would have been nice, as well. If you enjoy Olympic video games, or mini-game collections in general, Vancouver 2010 is still a nice way to pass a few hours.

Will Starcraft 2 work on my 2010 Macbook Pro?
Aug 13th
I got a 15-inch Macbook Pro last christmas. It has an Intel Core 2 Duo, has NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, has a 1440 x 900 resolution, but I can’t check which other requirements. I don’t know if it has enough HD memory or regular memory as I can’t find it on my about mac page. Does anyone know if this Macbook pro can run Starcraft 2?
